Osiligi Foundation’s programs are structured around the following core focus areas, aligned with the objectives of empowering women and promoting gender equality:
PROGRAMMATIC AREAS
Education
Despite the increase in the pupil-to-teacher ratios in Kenya, inadequate infrastructure compromises the quality of education and learning. This is further aggravated by gender and regional disparities in access and participation in education especially amongst the Maasai community. We are committed to the realization of the universal education, through infrastructure development, school-feeding programs leading to increased enrolments rates, teacher-support, and access to play and cultural activities.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
Poor WASH services have many repercussions on children, and particularly girls who are denied their rights to education. Within our facility, we provide access to quality WASH services that alleviate the general wellness of the children we support within the Maa Community in addition to reducing the health vulnerabilities especially amongst the girl child owing to the lack of lack private and descent sanitation facilities.
Governance and Advocacy
The Foundation actively engages key stakeholders including members of the community, duty bearers, and other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) within our key focus areas towards fostering responsive child protection systems underscored by the legal and policy framework in Kenya and as provided for within the global development commitments. We are committed to protecting children from the Maa Community from all forms of abuse and exploitation. In particular we work with government agencies towards enhanced coordination and resource allocation to enable actors to, raise awareness about child exploitation especially the girl child.
Climate Change
The Maa Community is majorly at-risk of the effects of climate change which have adverse effects on children especially with regards to diminished access to nutrition, education and healthcare. As a result, we work with communities towards enhanced knowledge of climate-friendly agricultural practices and the execution of tree-planting programs.
